(The Star) – Penang elected representatives have been told not to attend the #KitaLawan rally in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said all elected representatives were to remain at their respective constituencies for the distribution of RM100 under its senior citizens programme.

“I don’t think so (we will attend the rally). It is not possible,” he said when asked if Penang’s Pakatan Rakyat assemblymen would attend the rally.

“This is our priority. All elected representatives will remain at their respective constituencies for the distribution of the senior citizens programme,” he said.

Lim said that as the state government, they had a responsibility to carry out the project for its people; “I will also be at my constituency to carry out my duty”.

Lim was speaking to reporters after attending the ground-breaking ceremony of The Rise, an affordable housing project in Jalan SP Chelliah here.

The rally is a show of support for Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and aims to pressure authorities to free the PKR leader who was jailed for five years after being found guilty of sodomising his former employee Saiful Bukhari Azlan.
