Stop shooting the messenger, Pua tells Zahid
Tony Pua says the real culprits bringing disrepute to the country are not the critics of 1MDB but a blissfully ignorant and corrupt government.
(Free Malaysia Today) – DAP’s National Publicity Secretary has told the Home Ministry Zahid Ibrahim that he is singling out the wrong people when he accused critics of 1MDB as bringing disrepute to the country.
Tony Pua, who is also MP for Petaling Jaya, said it was instead those behind 1Malaysia Development Berhad and government leaders like himself that pushed the country into the international limelight and for all the wrong reasons.
“It was 1MDB’s utter failure and complete incompetence, as well as a blissfully ignorant and corrupt Government which resulted in the global negative publicity we face today,” Pua said in a statement.
He also asked the Home Minister why he chose to do nothing to investigate the claims of The Sunday Times and the Sarawak Report in regard to the transfer of US$700 million of 1MDB funds into an account controlled by Jho Low and his associates who used PetroSaudi as a front in a joint venture with 1MDB.
“why didn’t the Home Minister instruct the twitter-happy Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate these claims?” he asked and added that all the claims were substantiated with factual documents and were not merely rumours.
He also accused the government of being in “denial” by convincing themselves that 1MDB’s future was “brighter than bright”.
