Kadir: Umno Youth is ‘just another apple polisher’
If Umno Youth wants to serve its true purpose, it should start speaking out more loudly and act more decisively for the good of the people
(Free Malaysia Today) – Umno Youth seem more concerned about the government’s reputation than the welfare of the people, veteran journalist A Kadir Jasin says in his latest blog posting.
Referring to an Umno Youth official’s tweet about the latest transport fare hikes being a possible attempt to sabotage the government, he says, “I think the fare hikes will sabotage the welfare of the rakyat more than the popularity of the government. These days the government is better than good at sabotaging itself – like in the recent purchase of the Airbus A319 executive jet. It does not need anybody’s help really.”
In his tweet, Umno Youth executive councillor Ibdillah Ishak directed his criticism at KTMB, but Kadir says he’s barking up the wrong tree since it was the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) that approved the hikes.
He says Ibdillah should have asked SPAD commissioners who are more important to them – the land transport operators or the public?
“Is it necessary for SPAD to approve the new fares now and at that quantum when the people are about to be encumbered by the GST next month?” Kadir asks.
“Surely these men have the interest of the rakyat and the Prime Minister in mind. Or do they?
