Snubbing Vision 2020, Hadi says PAS aiming for ‘Vision Afterlife’
(The Malaysian Insider) – The focus of PAS is not on Vision 2020 alone, but the afterlife as well, party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said today, a day after the Kelantan state assembly approved the Shariah Criminal Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015).
“Our vision is the afterlife, and not just 2020,” said Hadi in a speech near Masjid Rusila in Marang, his parliamentary constituency in Terengganu, today.
PAS and the Kelantan government is facing intense criticism from its allies in Pakatan Rakyat (PR) after it tabled and passed amendments on hudud, the Islamic penal code, in its state assembly.
Yesterday, PKR leaders said Kelantan PAS should have placed its commitment to its PR partners first before its own right to push its plan for hudud in the state, while DAP called the act a betrayal to the coalition.
But Hadi today reminded all Muslims to be patient in the face of challenges from within and from their adversaries.
He added that when enemies offered peace, it should be accepted, in an apparent reference to the cosy ties between several PAS leaders and rival party Umno.
“If they are inclined towards peace, then make peace and surrender to Allah,” said Hadi, while quoting a verse from the Quran.
Yesterday, the 31 PAS, 12 Umno and one PKR Kelantan assemblymen crossed the political divide when they unanimously approved the amendments to the state’s Shariah Criminal Code II (1993), which will allow the Kelantan government to move one step closer towards enforcing hudud in the state.
PAS is now counting on all Muslim MPs to approve a private member’s bill it will table in Parliament that would allow the shariah courts to carry out the sentences under hudud law.
Hadi said today he was confident that if all Muslims were united, they could return Islam to its original glory in the country.
“Malaysia has abandoned Islam for a long time. We will take Islam to Putrajaya to dominate (it) and show the greatness of Islam.”
