DAP remains mum on future with Pakatan, for now
(NST) – DAP will reveal later today whether it will continue political cooperation with Pakatan, in particular Pas, or sever all ties with the opposition pact.
The party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) made the decision after a four-hour meeting at its headquarters here yesterday night.
“We have reached a unanimous decision, and we will release an official statement tomorrow morning (today),” said DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke.
Without elaborating further, Loke said the decision made by the top DAP leadership would “disappoint” Umno and Barisan Nasional.
“Our decision will prove to be positive to the people, Pakatan and DAP. Of course, that is up to everyone’s interpretation,” he said.
DAP publicity secretary Tony Pua said CEC members had discussed all issues regarding DAP’s future with Pakatan.
“Everyone gave their views and all sorts of options were considered. We’ve discussed whether we should stay or break (from Pakatan).
“We also discussed what the people want. There are people who want us to stay, but there are those who want us to leave.
“However, after lots of discussion, we managed to reach a decision,” he said, adding that DAP’s official statement on the matter would be released to the media at 10am.
He described the outcome of the meeting as important, saying it would chart the future of Pakatan.
Pua added that all 30 DAP CEC members had attended the meeting.
