Cops tapping MACC for info on Umno man’s 1MDB report
(Malay Mail Online) – Police are obtaining details from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on its investigation into an Umno leader’s complaint against 1 Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
In a written reply to Subang MP R.Sivarasa yesterday, the Home Ministry said former Penang Umno division deputy chief Datuk Seri Khairuddin Abu Hassan’s report was classified and being investigated under Section 409 of the Penal Code covering breach of trust by an agent.
“However, since Datuk Seri Paduka Khairuddin Abu Hassan had also lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission against 1MDB, the police are now in the process of obtaining feedback from MACC on their investigation into the matter,” the ministry said, adding that it is also to avoid overlap in the investigations into 1MDB.
Sivarasa had asked the ministry to state the status of police investigation into Khairuddin’s report against the debt-ridden state investment fund.
Last year, Khairuddin lodged a police report against 1MDB and its subsidiaries, alleging “questionable” business, investment and fund raising transactions and decisions.
It was reported that Khairuddin is backed by “powerful forces” in the party and that he decided to lodge the report following various reports, in both the local and foreign as well as online media agencies, which had allegedly proved the flaws in 1MDB’s management of taxpayers’ money.
In January, the former Batu Kawan Umno deputy chief lodged a report with the MACC.
He was subsequently sacked from his post as he was found to be an undischarged bankrupt, but remains a member of Umno.
