Kit Siang claims new ‘Save Malaysia’ pact idea has BN, Pakatan backing
(Malay Mail Online) – DAP’s Lim Kit Siang said today that his proposed “Save Malaysia” coalition government has attracted support from both Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) lawmakers amid the hudud controversy.
The DAP parliamentary leader also said in a statement that his proposal for a bipartisan government with a new prime minister has received encouragement from former ministers and intellectuals.
“‘I read your five fundamental principles for a new government. I fully support them’,” Lim quoted a message of support he claimed to have received, without naming who had it came from.
Among the five principles that the veteran opposition politician has previously mentioned are that the new coalition government must defend the Federal Constitution, abolish laws that contravene fundamental rights and review the 1963 Malaysia Agreement pertaining to Sabah and Sarawak.
Lim said today that the “Save Malaysia” bipartisan government must also include Malaysians of all race and religion, as well as those from East Malaysia.
“Secondly, it must issue a visionary and forward-looking programme to restore Malaysia’s greatness and allow Malaysia to punch above its weight in many areas of human endeavour, whether political, economic, social, educational, information technology or environmental,” said the Gelang Patah MP.
PAS-ruled Kelantan passed key amendments to its Shariah Criminal Code II 1993 last week in a move to enable the eventual implementation of hudud in the Malay-majority east coast state.
The DAP later pilloried PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang Tuesday for the Islamist party’s push for the Islamic penal code, saying it will no longer work with him even as it vowed to remain in the PR pact.
