An alternative media portal comes under fire for publishing a false report

(Free Malaysia Today) – The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar, said in a posting on Twitter today, that police will summon the “biased” editors of The Malaysian Insider (TMI) over their allegedly inaccurate and confusing reporting.

He added in his tweet that police had no clue of the motive behind TMI’s actions.

However, Khalid had not indicated in his tweet which article he was referring to.

On Wednesday, TMI had carried an article entitled, “Council of Rulers opposes amendments needed to enforce hudud”.

In the article, it was implied that without the Malay rulers’ stamp of approval, the federal government was now unable to table the hudud bill in Parliament to amend Act 355, which currently limited the scope of punishment meted out by the Syariah court.

However, PAS MP Mohd Takiyuddin Hassan, later refuted any suggestion that the Conference of Rulers was required to be involved in the religious affairs of a state which was strictly under the jurisdiction of its Sultan.

According to Bernama, the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Syed Danial Ahmad, said a report had been lodged at the Jalan Travers Police Station on Thursday, denying that any statement had been issued on the stand of the Conference of Rulers on the proposed implementation of the hudud law in Kelantan.
