PAS pushing hudud on basis of ‘agreeing to disagree’

Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah says PAS will continue to fight for the implementation of the Syariah Criminal Code II Enactment 1993 (Amendment 2015) to be introduced in Dewan Rakyat, in spite of intense opposition, especially from DAP.

(The Rakyat Post) – PAS is pushing for hudud on the basis of “agreeing to disagree”, said Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

He said that following the decision reached in September 2011, PAS had been moving ahead to implement Islamic law in line with the Kelantan Islamic punishment enactment passed in 1993.

“We debated extensively on the hudud issue, and I reasoned with Karpal Singh on many issues raised to the point that he was speechless on one or two issues.

“It reached a point where we decided to issue a statement on ‘agreeing to disagree’, that’s the basis meaning to say that each party has it own problems and struggles.

“We agreed to stick to our struggles and respect each other’s stance and this is the basis for PAS to push for hudud,” he told The Rakyat Post in an interview.

The Panchor state assemblyman also stated that PAS would continue to fight for the implementation of the Syariah Criminal Code II Enactment 1993 (Amendment 2015) to be introduced in Dewan Rakyat, in spite of intense opposition, especially from DAP.

“We have what we call common policy, but we also have differences which must be respected.

“Hudud had been there since 1993, before Pakatan Rakyat, we can’t kill off hudud just because of the coalition.

“That is what we understand and we carry on the struggle,” he said.

He said since it had been passed by the state assembly, it meant that hudud could continue.

He added that the laws did not involve national level policies.

During the assembly sitting on March 18 and 19, the Kelantan state assembly passed the Syariah Criminal Code (II) Enactment 1993 to implement hudud in Kelantan.

The state assembly got the full support of the assemblymen, including Datuk Husam Musa (PAS- Salor) and the sole PKR assemblyman from Guchil, Roslan Puteh.

PAS also intends to table a private bill in the Dewan Rakyat to extend the scope of the syariah courts to enable the implementation of hudud.

The private bill is to be undertaken by PAS president and Marang Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Abdul Hadi has notified Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia on the proposed tabling of the private member’s bill. The Dewan Rakyat received the notice on March 18.
