Kit Siang: Nancy, Rohani, potential PM candidates in ‘Save Malaysia’ coalition
(The Star) – DAP veteran and advisor Lim Kit Siang has suggested a list of leaders from Sabah and Sarawak to possibly lead the country should a new ‘Save Malaysia’ ruling coalition be established.
In a statement released on Sunday, Lim said that Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of Law Nancy Shukri (pic) and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim from Sarawak are among possible Prime Minister candidates in his envisioned post-Barisan National, post-Pakatan Rakyat coalition.
Lim also proposed Sabah leaders Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin, Kalabakan MP Datuk Seri Abdul Ghapur Salleh and Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof from Sarawak.
“A Sabahan or Sarawakian can also be Prime Minister of Malaysia in post-Barisan, post-Pakatan new coalition before GE 14, and possible candidates include Anifah Musa (Foreign Minister), Rosnah Rashid Shirlin (Deputy Works Minister), Abdul Ghapur Salleh (MP Kalabakan) from Sabah and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusuf (Works Minister), Datuk Nancy Shukri (Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department) and Rohaini Abdul Karim (Minister for Women, Family and Community Development) from Sarawak,” Lim wrote.
“Such a Prime Ministerial possibility must currently be a Member of Parliament as we are talking about the present batch of MPs.
“If a new general election is to be held, then it is a different ball game altogether,” he said.
“If such a new coalition gets the support of the majority of the 222 Members of Parliament, then there will be a new Prime Minister,” he said.
On March 19, the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly unanimously passed amendments to the state’s Syariah Criminal Code II (1993) .
On March 22, Lim proposed the formation of a new bipartisan coalition called ‘Save Malaysia’ to defend the Federal Constitution in the wake of PAS’ hudud push.
He proposed the new coalition come together before GE14.
He said that the new Prime Minister can be from Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak or Sabah and can be either a man or woman.
PAS plans to table a Private Member’s bill in the May parliamentary sitting to allow for the implementation of PAS’ hudud in Kelantan.
Until today, Pakatan allies have yet to see the copy of the proposed Private Member’s Bill.
