Kedah youth leader wants ‘stern action’ against the press for publishing ‘unconfirmed reports’
(Free Malaysia Today) – Kedah Umno Youth has called for stern action against The Malaysian Insider over its report, quoting sources, which said the Rulers Conference had rejected a constitutional amendment that would have allowed the hudud Islamic penal code to be imposed in Kelantan.
Saiful Hazizy Zainol Abidin, head of the Kedah wing, said stern action should be taken as a lesson to all parties including owners of opposition, pro-government or independent media to avoid publishing unconfirmed reports, Bernama said.
He was quoted as saying the report linking the Rulers Conference to hudud law showed that the Malaysian Insider was now desperate.
“The royal institution is a symbol of national pride and should not be tarnished by irresponsible hands,” he said outside Kota Setar police headquarters today.
A police report had earlier been filed by the Youth wing against the Insider.
The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal has denied the Insider report saying that the matter was not raised at the meeting, and stated that it had not issued any statement about the meeting.
