Unity government? Trial it in Penang and Selangor, Kit Siang told
(Malay Mail Online) – DAP’s Lim Kit Siang should propose for the Pakatan Rakyat-held states of Penang and Selangor to test out his unity government idea to demonstrate its viability at the federal level, an MCA leader suggested today.
Expressing his support for the DAP parliamentary leader’s “sensible” idea, MCA central committee member Datuk Ti Lian Ker said doing so would also demonstrate that Lim’s proposal was earnest and not just another political ploy.
“Towards this end, I back Kit Siang’s call and, in order to show his sincerity, he should propose a trial-run unity government in Penang and Selangor to move towards a national-level unity government.
“Then come three years later, the rakyat and administration shall examine the results and decide the next step,” Ti said in a statement today.
The MCA leader said Lim’s proposal was pertinent now as some MPs were growing blatant in their disregard of the country’s Federal Constitution. Ti did not, however, name those he accused of doing so.
A week ago, Lim started his proposal to form a new government by a “Save Malaysia” coalition to comprise lawmakers from both sides of the political divide, ostensibly in response to PAS’s push to implement hudud in Kelantan that was gaining Umno’s support.
Stressing that the suggestion was his personal view, the DAP parliamentary leader added that the pact’s objectives would be specifically to defend the Federal Constitution and uphold the rule of law.
Yesterday, Lim sought to win over two significant voter groups by suggesting that a woman MP from Sabah or Sarawak could be the next prime minister of his new coalition government.
He went as far as to list de facto Law Minister Nancy Shukri, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Rosnah Rashid Shirlin, and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Rohani Abdul Karim, as candidates.
A few days ago, Lim also proposed for BN lawmakers Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak, Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor and Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun for the Sabah chief minister post, instead of Sabah PKR leader Datuk Lajim Ukin.
