Anwar has lost his seat as MP, says Speaker

(The Rakyat Post) – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lost his seat as the Member of Parliament for Permatang Pauh on March 16 after the Pardons Board rejected his clemency petition, said Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia today.

Pandikar said based on the decision of Anwar’s petition, the five-year sentence of the leader of the Opposition would continue.

“I, as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, have received a letter which states the decision on the petition to pardon the Permatang Pauh representative on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.

“With this decision, the Permatang Pauh representative has been disqualified as a Member of Parliament on March 16, 2015, the moment the petition for pardon had been decided upon,” he said in a statement.
