Salleh: Mahathir’s attacks on Najib have ‘hidden agenda’
Choose Najib over Mahathir – His decisions and actions have foresight and will benefit the country
(Free Malaysia Today) – Former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad’s on-going attacks on Prime Minister Najib Razak is in furtherance of his own political agenda, claims Sabah State Assembly Speaker Salleh Said Keruak.
Claiming that Najib has to date furnished detailed answers to all issues raised by Mahathir, including with regard to BR1M, 1MDB, the use of the government’s jet and the Sirul Azhar Umar controversy, Salleh says that Mahathir’s relentless attacks will only serve to benefit opposition parties PKR, DAP and PAS.
“To me, Mahathir is entitled to his own opinion, but he cannot force other leaders to accept his opinions in their entirety. That is the essence of democracy,” Salleh’s blog post today reads.
“Najib is entitled to his own opinion. This has to be respected by all, including Mahathir.”
Salleh adds that when Mahathir was Prime Minister, he continued to receive support for all his policies by reason of his position as party leader despite the fact that not all of his decisions were agreed to by party members.
“For example, in Sabah, UMNO Sabah opposed the rotation of the post of chief minister via party channels,” he writes. “Despite this, we eventually relented and agreed.”
“Let us not be trapped by Mahathir’s private agenda,” he warns.
“The pressures which he is bringing to bear on the Prime Minister have hidden motives,” he adds without elaboration.
