Dr M refused calls to step down when he was in power, Barisan leader says
(Malay Mail Online) – Parti Bersatu Sabah deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili lambasted Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for taking potshots at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The senior Sabah Barisan Nasional leader said that while Mahathir was revered for his contributions to the country, he should first take a look at the mirror before demanding that Najib resign.
“Maybe Mahathir has forgotten …when he was prime minister people had asked him to step down many times but he refused,” Ongkili was quoted as saying by The Star Online.
Ongkili added that PBS had asked for Dr Mahathir to step down 20 years ago for allowing illegal immigrants to obtain citizenship in Sabah.
“He ignored our calls then. Today he admits that there is such a thing as Project IC and that there is nothing wrong in giving citizenship to immigrants simply for being in Sabah for a long time and for having relatives here.
“By his admission, Project IC existed to provide citizenship to these people, ignoring the rules and laws on citizenship and eligibility,” Ongkili said.
