Rafizi caught jumping the gun over BMW cars
BMW Group Malaysia releases an official statement saying the cars were not purchased by Putrajaya but provided by the company for the ASEAN Summit.
(Free Malaysia Today) – After having confidently spoken to the media that the government had allegedly purchased six luxury cars for its officials, Rafizi Ramli will now have to contend with the reality that he jumped to conclusions as the vehicles were not purchased by Putrajaya but provided by the BMW Group Malaysia for government use.
In a statement today, Alan Harris, the company’s Managing Director and CEO said, “In response to the statement made by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Vice President, Rafizi Ramli at the Malaysian Parliament on the purchase of six brand new BMW 7 Series by the Malaysian Government, we at BMW Group Malaysia would like to clarify that the cars mentioned and photographed have not been purchased by Putrajaya.”
Harris said the vehicles were in fact provided by the company for the upcoming ASEAN Summit being held in late April.
“The cars are part of BMW Group Malaysia’s commitment as the Automotive Partner of the upcoming 26th ASEAN Summit taking place in Kuala Lumpur and Langkawi from 24th to the 28th of April 2015.
“BMW Group Malaysia will be providing a fleet of BMW 7 Series and BMW 5 Series which will be utilised for the shuttling of all dignitaries, officials and VIPs for South East Asia’s most prominent meeting later this month.”
