‘Tun M’s financial mistakes known, but under Najib it’s investigated’
(The Rakyat Post) – Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan is the latest to come to the Prime Minister’s defence following continued criticism by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The Housing, Urban Wellbeing and Local Government Minister noted the former Prime Minister admitted recently that he lost public money during his tenure.
“Tun M said financial mistakes were known during his time. Yes true. But under Najib it’s investigated.
“DS Najib has asked AG, PAC to investigate 1MDB,” he tweeted today, alluding to Tun Dr Mahathir and Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The AG is the Attorney-General while PAC is the Public Accounts Committee. 1MDB is a government investment arm.
Since the criticisms against Najib started, many Barisan Nasional and Umno leaders have leapt to the premier’s defence.
MIC Youth chief C. Sivarraajh described Mahathir as “an old man” and the latter’s rants were merely “the rumblings of a man who must be forgiven for thinking he can still direct this country and order its new and elected bosses around”.
Former Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Salleh Said Keruak said Mahathir had the right to voice his views, but no right to force those views onto current leaders.
Najib, the Sabah speaker said, has a different view and this must be respected by all including by the country’s fourth Prime Minister.
Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing meanwhile said that Sarawak and Sabah could not afford to not support Najib.
Meanwhile, Sarawak BN secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom advised Mahathir to stop making adverse comments on Najib for the sake of the country.
Mahathir also said that Najib would cause BN to lose in the next general elections, adding that Najib’s continued silence of the controversies surrounding him also did not help his image among the people.
This led to Mahathir opining that Najib should step down from his position.
