Mukhriz under fire as father goes on rampage
(Free Malaysia Today) – Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s son Mukhriz, menteri besar of Kedah, has come under attack from Kedah Umno politicians as the former prime minister keeps up his campaign to oust Najib Razak.
An assemblyman told Mukhriz to step down if he would not publicly state his support for Najib who is the Umno president and prime minister, as other Umno and Barisan Nasional politicians have done.
Ahmad Lebai Sudin, the assemblyman for Bukit Lada, said Mukhriz owed his job to Najib. “If he no longer supports the PM, it is best to resign, according to SuaraTV quoted by the Malaysian Insider.
He had been interviewed after a meeting of state Umno leaders, MPs and state assemblymen called by Mukhriz’s office.
Ahmad Lebai also criticised Mukhriz for setting a condition in order to state his support for Najib.
“Mukhriz stated that he would back Najib only if (an investigation by the Auditor-General) found that there was no wrongdoing in 1MDB (the government-owned company with RM42mil in debt). But if the investigation finds otherwise, he will side with the people,” Ahmad Lebai was quoted as saying.
