Kedah Umno’s stand on PM put to rest

(NST) – The issue surrounding Kedah Umno’s stand on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s leadership was put to rest today.

In a special meeting chaired by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir at noon, the state Umno liaison committee, together with the party’s division leaders and Barisan Nasional assemblymen, all agreed the former should not issue a statement on the matter.

“Collectively, we voice our undivided support towards Najib’s leadership, and our full support to Mukhriz.

“We also respect Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the former Prime Minister, and we hope he will give Najib time in the issues he has raised concerning the latter.

“In addition, we have jointly agreed to cancel the special meeting which is supposed to take place in Kuala Lumpur on the 24th,” Kedah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah announced in a hastily called press conference today.

Previously, Mukhriz had stated that he would announce Kedah Umno’s official stand on the matter this April 24 after a meeting with all the state’s 15 Umno division chiefs.
