Mahathir versus Najib: too much bullshit

According to Dr Mahathir, if you support Najib Razak, you support the plunder of 1MDB. According to Najib, supporting Mahathir implies that you want the ‘crooked bridge’ . What bullshit.

Excuse me? The reason we do not like what is going on in 1MDB is because it is going to make the lives of our grandchildren miserable paying back mounting national debts. Just as insisting on building an expensive crooked bridge because of national ego, is just as wasteful as buying an executive jetliner plus existing seven other jets, purportedly for security purposes.

What these two may be supporting or are against are just coincidental to our likes and dislikes. We made up our minds based on our consideration of what is right for the future of this country. Not because you advocated them in your feud with each other. We give credit where it’s due, irrespective whether one or both of you are not one of our favouriite politicians. We make our decisions based on the merits of each case. Screw your fight.

This habit of putting people in pigeon-holes with your names on it is childish and uncalled for. Progressive Malaysians are issues-driven and not personality-driven. Don’t be so egoistic. Our choice of leaders is beyond just single-issue subsriprition though. That is why we are not ending up with people who speak well but is also a sexual hypocrite, as our leader.

No matter how much we appreciate Mahathir’s gall in insisting that the government come clean on 1MDB, we will never forget his destruction of our institutions in his Machiavellian tactics to achieve what he thought was right. No matter how right he was, our heart bleed for our grandchildren who will be deprived of democratic institutions of separation of powers that we enjoyed a long, long time ago.

Similarly, every time we see a grateful smiling face receiving a BR1M cheque, we can’t separate the fact that it’s pittance compared to the billions lost in feeding cronies and government lavish spending.

Maybe the fact that these two are from the same party is a cruel coincidence. But the opposition is no different – opposing for the sake of opposing. And on the occasion that we think the government is doing some things right, we are pigeon-holed as government lackeys. They have only been just tested, already the signs of egoistic inclinations are already showing.

From our youth to our old age, we are fed with outdated concepts of political cooperation and perverted political-values system. Because we were afraid to venture outside the box and we were encircled by these egoistic personalities.

Our hopes for our grandchildren and the hopes for this nation lie with our youths to introduce and nurture new fresher politics. Let’s give them the space. Let these old folks fade away, they have taken care of their grandchildren not ours.

It’s time our youth inherit what’s due to them. It’s alright for them to make mistakes and maybe suffer for their own mistakes. Our job is to leave them a clean slate to start with, not a nation plagued with some boring old problems that we couldn’t solve during our time.
