Muhyiddin has now placed himself on Dr M’s side
Blogger Shahbudin says the DPM must act to show he truly supports Mahathir’s ‘fight for truth’.
(Free Malaysia Today) – Having affirmed that Dr Mahathir Mohamad is a fighter for truth, Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin should now take concrete steps to help the former premier in his fight to oust Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, political analyst suggests in his latest blog article.
Words alone are not enough, he says in reaction to remarks Muhyiddin made yesterday at a forum where Mahathir was present. The DPM was speaking in the context of Mahathir’s criticism of Western powers, but many see his comment as a veiled reference to the former premier’s current effort to remove Najib from his posts of Prime Minister and Umno President.
“Muhyiddin’s expression of support for Mahathir can be seen as a signal that he has lost faith in Najib,” Shahbudin writes. “He has gone beyond expressing respect for Mahathir’s views, as he has done before this. He has now placed himself on Mahathir’s side. So he must now repeat the role he played in hastening the resignation of Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in 2008.”
He says Muhyiddin’s support for Mahathir’s “fight for truth” would be meaningless unless he takes one or all of the following steps:
* Gather the support of Umno leaders throughout the country;
* Join Mahathir at every public event where the former prime minister speaks against Najib;
* Resign from his position as Deputy Prime Minister while maintaining his job as Umno Deputy President;
* Openly demand Najib’s resignation.
Unless Muhyiddin acts, Shahbudin says, “the struggle for the truth may drag on without any guarantee of success because Najib won’t easily withdraw.”
He assures Muhyiddin that most Malaysians will support him. “They can’t wait to see Najib ousted.”
