Shafie asks Najib to answer Mahathir
Everyone, he reminded, should know Mahathir’s character by now
(Free Malaysia Today) – Umno vice-president Shafie Apdal, apparently taking a cue from Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir, feels that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should answer all the queries raised in public by Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Najib, he said, cannot dismiss Mahathir’s criticism of his administration as arising from his failure to go ahead with the crooked bridge project. “This is not just about the crooked bridge project.”
“If Najib answers Mahathir’s queries, then he will be satisfied and will not keep raising them in public.”
Everyone, he reminded, should know Mahathir’s character by now. “This (criticisms) has happened before, not just during Najib’s time, but from well before.”
Shafie, who hails from Sabah and is also the Minister of National and Rural Development, was stating his stand on the Najib-Mahathir feud on the sidelines of registering new Umno Youth members in Ipoh on Sunday. His remarks were carried among others by Utusan Malaysia.
The party and the government itself, added Shafie who was conspicuously absent during a recent meeting of Umno divisional chiefs, should give detailed explanations on the queries raised by Mahathir. “Don’t let others give the explanations.”
It’s not necessary, he continued, for the Auditor-General and the bipartisan parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to finish vetting the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) for example. “Anyone with information, including Najib as Minister of Finance, can provide the explanations required.”
