So you think we’re worse than those who robbed Malaysia? PAS veep asks Kit Siang

(Malay Mail Online) – A PAS leader asked Lim Kit Siang today if he considers the Islamist party worse than those who steal public funds just for upholding hudud law, after the DAP veteran said he was willing to work with Umno’s Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to “save Malaysia”.
PAS vice-president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man pointed out that former prime minister Dr Mahathir, who has been attacking Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak openly, was only interested in rescuing Umno so that Barisan Nasional’s (BN) secrets will not fall to Pakatan Rakyat (PR) when it takes over the government.
“We know we’re not perfect human beings, but just because PAS is fighting for EKJS, does that mean that PAS is now worse than those who robbed the nation?” Tuan Ibrahim said in a statement, referring to Malay acronym of the Kelantan’s Shariah Criminal Code Enactment II, or the state’s proposed hudud law.
“There are some who are asking why Kit Siang is willing to work with those who are often dubbed as robbers of the rakyat’s money and destroyers of the administration, just because one of their PR partners want to fulfil their responsibility to their creator by working democratically to ensure that criminals of the same religion are punished based on God’s laws,” he added.
Lim, who is DAP parliamentary leader, suggested last month the formation of a new government by a “Save Malaysia” coalition to comprise both BN and PR lawmakers, following the hudud controversy.
The Gelang Patah MP said Saturday that he is willing to work with Dr Mahathir in order to “save Malaysia” from the current policies that might plunge the country “down a slippery slope.
Dr Mahathir attacked PAS’ hudud as a political ploy last Wednesday, saying he hopes Kelantan Umno understands the repercussions of its decision to back the Islamist party’s bid to enforce the controversial Islamic penal code.
Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh Deo, also from the DAP, however said yesterday that working with Dr Mahathir to remove Najib as prime minister will backfire on PR.
Tuan Ibrahim said today that Lim’s willingness to work with Dr Mahathir was odd, considering that Lim himself has attacked PAS because PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang supposedly cooperated with Umno.
“PAS has stressed many times that there is no cooperation between PAS and Umno. What exists is only the cooperation between the Kelantan government and the federal government (G to G, government to government) so that the Kelantan EKJS can be enforced. G to G cooperation happens in all PR states, whether directly or indirectly,” he said.
Dr Mahathir said yesterday that he will not work with PR to achieve his goal of having Najib resign from office, noting that the problem lay within Umno itself.
