Zahid queries Mahathir on loyalty to Umno
Umno Vice- President says that former Prime Minister cannot force others to accept his views.
(Free Malaysia Today) – Umno Vice- President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi recalled in an interview with Astro Awani that Dr Mahathir Mohamad, during his time as Prime Minister, had expected party members to be loyal to him. “He expected undivided loyalty.”
“Najib expects the same from Umno leaders and members,” said Zahid without mentioning other Umno leaders who had either taken a neutral stance or distanced themselves from Najib in the ongoing feud between the Prime Minister and Mahathir.
He was questioning Mahathir’s claim that support for Najib had dwindled. “I don’t know on what basis he’s saying that. He’s entitled to his views. We respect it.”
“But he cannot force others to accept them.”
Zahid did not touch on the reasons why Mahathir said support for Najib had dwindled.
Mahathir is currently engaged in open war with Najib over several issues.
