Despite Permatang Pauh poll, Penang Dapsy maintains frozen ties with PAS youth
(Malay Mail Online) – Penang DAP’s socialist youth wing (Dapsy) will uphold its decision to suspend all ties with the state PAS youth wing despite the upcoming Permatang Pauh by-election, Ng Wei Aik said today.
The Penang Dapsy chief said the matter was decided during the youth wing’s state executive council meeting last night, and that there will be no need for Dapsy to change its stance despite calls for Pakatan Rakyat (PR) parties to unite for the by-election.
“It was decided and agreed upon that the DAPSY Penang will continue to freeze our ties with the Pas Youth Penang while for the Permatang Pauh by-election campaign which will be kicked-off from 25th of April to 7th of May, 2015, we will set aside our differences without changing our stance on this matter.
“In other words, the question of retracting our previous decision or unfreezing our frozen relationship with the Pas Youth Penang is not arisen,” Ng said in a statement here.
Ng stressed that while Dapsy will not be engaging directly with the Penang PAS youth for the Permatang Pauh campaign, they will continue to work with PKR and PR as whole to a secure an electoral win there.
“Since the Permatang Pauh is contested by a PKR candidate, we cannot simply dictate the PKR’s campaign decision.
“Hence, we will not snub any event organized by the PKR, no matter it is with or without the Pas’ involvement,” he added.
Permatang Pauh is a PKR stronghold with its three state seats also under Pakatan Rakyat; Seberang Jaya (PKR), Penanti (PKR) and Permatang Pasir (PAS).
PAS secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali has ordered all party relevant divisions to work with PKR and DAP for both by-election campaigns.
Nominations and polling are fixed for April 25 and May 7 respectively.
