Hadi remains firm on hudud for Kelantan
(Bernama) – PAS remains adamant about implementing laws to enforce hudud criminal penalties in Kelantan despite opposition from its political ally, the DAP, says PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Hadi reiterated the PAS stand on hudud and said there was no compromise in the PAS struggle to bring out the hudud law in Kelantan.
“They (DAP) are not Muslims, certainly they will not agree, that is their right (but) they want to force us (PAS). Kelantan wants to implement the hudud with their (DAP) agreement, that is not possible,” he said when opening the general meeting of the Tumpat PAS today.
Hadi is campaigning to be re-elected as party leader in June, against a possible challenge from a faction said to be in favour of greater cooperation with Pakatan Rakyat allies DAP and PKR.
He said he had on numerous occasions debated with the DAP leaders on the implementation of hudud: eventually PAS decided that implementing the Islamic law was the right of the Kelantan PAS government.
Last month Hadi, who is MP for Marang, had sought to table a motion in the Dewan Rakyat on March 18 for a private member’s bill to enable Kelantan to enforce hudud penalties under Kelantan’s syariah law.
The bill could not be tabled for debate as the Dewan Rakyat ran out of time before it adjourned on April 9.
