PKR and Permatang Pauh PAS reach an understanding, no apology given
(The Rakyat Post) – PKR is maintaining its stand on hudud which is championed by PAS when its deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali tonight denied a news report saying that PKR has apologised to PAS on the matter.
He admitted that while a meeting did take place between PAS and PKR, a short while before the announcement of the Permatang Pauh candidate earlier; namely with himself and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail in attendance, it was not to apologise to PAS.
“We did not apologise to PAS during the meeting.
“Our stand on hudud is still the same,” he said when met after PKR announced its president Wan Azizah as the Permatang Pauh by-election candidate.
He rubbished a news report tonight saying PKR had finally made a private apology and gave an explanation over their statement against PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang for submitting the private bill on hudud, to the party’s Permatang Pauh division in an attempt to ensure support for the upcoming by-election.
In the report, quoting a Permatang Pauh PAS division committee member Jamsari, it was said that PKR had apologised, as well as Mohamed Azmin had stated that PKR accepts hudud.
Meanwhile Mohamed Azmin told reporters tonight that, “The meeting was chaired by Mat Sabu (PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu), so no question of Permatang Pauh PAS only listening to Hadi and that the meeting was a ‘clarification exercise’”.
“It was a good meeting and it was done to seek clarification,” he said, adding that there was also no question of Permatang Pauh PAS boycotting PKR’s by-election campaign.
Jamsari Samad when contacted by The Rakyat Post confirmed that PKR did not apologise but explained that both parties came to an understanding.
