PKR responsible for campaign, PAS to just follow
PAS Bukit Bendera deputy commissioner Saiful Lizan Md Yusoff also says “DAP should bring out its Malays to help in the campaign.”
(Free Malaysia Today) – PAS has taken the position that PKR should not face difficulties in retaining Permatang Pauh in the by-election on May 7 given its oft-stated stand that “Permatang Pauh is our fortress”.
“It’s PKR’s turf,” said PAS Bukit Bendera deputy commissioner Saiful Lizan Md Yusoff. “It’s responsible for leading the campaign and outlining strategies, walkabouts and door-to-door campaigns. We just follow.”
“PKR is capable of mobilising its workers to woo voters in its own stronghold.”
He reiterated that his party was only assisting PKR in the campaign and could not be expected to help deliver the Malay votes. Of the 71,890 registered voters in the parliamentary constituency, some 12,000 are said to be PAS supporters.
It remains to be seen, he added, whether the PAS grassroots are in tandem with the party leaders who have appeared on stage with its Pakatan Rakyat (PR) allies. He implied that the party’s supporters may still be upset with DAP criticising PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang. “We have to see whether the party’s supporters at the grassroots are working or not.”
Already, he noted, the PAS Penang Youth movement had said that it would stay away from the campaign. “DAP should bring out its Malays to help in the campaign.”
“DAP in its website brags about its Malay voters and supporters.”
It’s time for DAP, he continued, to bring out 2,000 of its Malay members to help with the campaign in Permatang Pauh. “Don’t just depend on PAS only to deliver the Malay votes.”
