Dr M: BN has a chance to win Permatang Pauh due to disarray in Pakatan

(Malay Mail Online) – Barisan Nasional, often termed as an underdog in the Permatang Pauh by-election, has a chance to win the seat due to the infighting within its political opponent, Pakatan Rakyat, says Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The former prime minister said he will not be stopping by the BN’s by-election operations centre even though he’s in Penang today because “they don’t need him”.

“They don’t need my help, they will have a chance to win because the opposition is in disarray due to the hudud Bill which PKR will not support,” he said in a press conference after speaking in a forum at Universiti Sains Malaysia here this morning.

He added that since PKR does not support PAS’ hudud Bill, PAS will not support PKR’s campaign in the by-election.

On BN’s candidate, Suhaimi Sabudin, he said he doesn’t know him but hoped he’s a good candidate to win the seat.

As for PKR’s choice of candidate, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, he maintained what he had always said about PKR being a “family party”.

“I have always maintained that it belongs to the family, it’s not a party but an organization to support the family so the family has to be there,” he said.

Dr Wan Azizah is defending the seat against Suhaimi, PRM’s Azman Shah Othman and independent candidate Salleh Isahak.

Polling is on May 7.
