PAS: Wan Azizah backs hudud
(The Star) – Some PAS grassroots members here are starting to campaign for PKR’s Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail because they now believe she is supportive of hudud.
Suhaimi Harun, who is leading the Kubang Semang PAS machinery, said only the non-Muslims in PKR were against hudud.
“I discussed with Wan Azizah, and told her Muslims must support hudud. She agreed,” he said.
On April 19, Permatang Pauh PAS passed a resolution to “remain idle” until PKR apologised for objecting against hudud, but reversed its stand a week later, ostensibly due to pressure from the central PAS committee, which ordered it to assist PKR.
Although PKR deputy president Azmin Ali was quoted saying the party had not apologised for objecting against hudud, Suhaimi said they would not believe media reports.
“We only believe what we hear directly,” said Suhaimi, adding they had known Dr Wan Azizah and her husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for a long time.
He said they could capitalise on public anger over GST.
Ahmad Kamal Ahmad, who is leading the Permatang Ara PAS machinery, said they had addressed the misunderstanding over hudud.
“We understand that the Malay MPs in PKR support hudud. Those who understand this are helping on the ground,” he said.
Mat Saad Ahmad, who is leading the Kampung Cross Street machinery, said they would give Dr Wan Azizah their full support.
Dr Wan Azizah is in a four-cornered fight with Barisan Nasional’s Suhaimi Sabudin, PRM member Azman Shah and independent candidate Salleh Isahak.
PAS Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat said members must abide by the party’s central committee decision to support the PKR candidate in the by-election this Thursday.
