‘Permatang Pauh by-election is good time for rakyat to rebel against Opposition’
(The Rakyat Post) – The upcoming Permatang Pauh by-election would be the best time for voters to “rebel” against Pakatan Rakyat.
This was said by Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club (BNBBC) chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.
According to the Johor Baru Member of Parliament, while the actions taken by the Penang government was in accordance with the Constitution, he however alleged that they had interpreted the law wrongly because they were in power.
“There are times we have to show this Pakatan Rakyat government that we are rebelling against them because we do not agree with their ways.
“A PAS member chided Lim Guan Eng once and DAP immediately dropped him as a councillor.
“Yes, this is not wrong, legally, but sometimes the greediness of it makes us see what is happening.
“With regards to housing, where is the state government’s role in providing low-cost housing?
“This is not their first term as the state government, which is why we need to rebel against them,” he told The Rakyat Post.
Shahrir had also slammed the move by PKR candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to get the help of Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to take care of her Kajang state seat and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for Permatang Pauh should she win it.
He explained that the rakyat should not become victims of the Opposition just so they could fulfil their own narrow political needs.
“If we care for the people who voted for us, we would not hand over the task of taking care of them to another person.
“Why should the rakyat sacrifice just for their own interests?
“I think this is not right because as a leader, we need to take care of the well-being of the rakyat.”
