(The Rakyat Post) – Umno division heads are reportedly happy with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s explanation over controversies surrounding him and his leadership.

According to The Star, the division heads who had just attended a luncheon in Sri Perdana, Putrajaya, with the Umno president ahead of the ruling party’s 69th anniversary celebration tonight, had expressed support and trust in him.

The English daily quoted Umno Supreme Council member Dr Puad Zarkashi who said that the party members’ support remained with Najib.

Meanwhile, a Sabah Umno division head said that according to Najib, no one could tell him to step down as Prime Minister as long as the people supported him.

“Najib also said he never brought anyone down to go up in politics. (Tun) Dr Mahathir Mohamad had his problems when he was in power but he (Najib) supported him.”

The Star added that the Sabah division head — who refused to be named — also said that during the luncheon, Najib talked about the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

He explained that critics should wait for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to complete its investigation into the state-owned investment fund.

Najib, the division leader said, reassured that if there was any wrongdoing, the responsible party would be held to task.

“Nobody questioned him after he explained about 1MDB; they merely nodded their heads.”

Najib was reported to have also said that the people had to wait to be able to see the benefits of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

In regard to the Tabung Haji-1MDB controversy, according to The Star, Najib explained that it was merely a business deal and the profits would have gone to the depositors.

However, since the details on the purchase had been twisted and wrongly interpreted, Tabung Haji had no choice but to back out of the deal, according to the daily’s source.

Another Sabah division head said that they were told by Najib to be patient and that the truth would prevail.

Najib also told them that no one would be protected.
