(The Malaysian Insider) – PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu has criticised certain quarters who wanted to give a “new crutch” to Umno after its “longtime crutches”, namely MCA and MIC, had been damaged.

Without naming those who wanted to help the ruling Malay party, Mohamad, who is more popularly known as Mat Sabu said, while Umno is now on the verge of collapse, there are those who tried to prevent the party from doing so.

“Cis (Damn), who wants to give new crutches to Umno?” he asked at a ceramah last night in Kota Baru, Kelantan.

Also present at the ceramah organised by Kota Baru PAS is DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang and PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli.

Mat Sabu is believed to be refering to some quarters within his own party PAS who are trying to be forge closer ties with Umno.

He said during a PAS Youth Muktamar in Rusila, Marang in Terengganu a few years ago, the then PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat had mentioned that Umno and Barisan Nasional’s strength comes from its crutches, namely MCA and MIC.

“If we are successful in breaking off these crutches, then Umno will collapse,” the late Nik Aziz was quoted as saying by Mat Sabu.

“Now, the Chinese and Indians do not want to vote for Umno and BN, this means Umno’s crutch is broken and Umno will definitely collapse.

“Now, Umno’s two crutches has broken, this mean Umno is now swaying, and suddenly there are those who want to defend it so that it does not fall,” Mat Sabu said in his speech in front of around 1,000 people.

It was not known who in particular Mat Sabu was referring to that he claimed was trying to aid Umno.

But it was believed to be related to PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s interview with Singapore’s TODAY newspaper last month, blaming the political uncertainties in Malaysia on Umno, and proposed that “a correction be made” through the formation of a unity government involving all major political parties and no opposition.
