PAS’ non-Muslim wing all for hudud
PAS Supporters Congress has changed its stance on hudud saying its previous view was that of just one individual
(Free Malaysia Today)- The non-Muslim wing of PAS, the PAS Supporters’ Congress (DHPP), has taken a dramatic U-turn in their support for Kelantan’s hudud plans, with its new leadership saying now that they never opposed implementation of the controversial Islamic law since it would not affect non-Muslims.
This reflects a sudden change made in the wing’s leadership, following the replacement of previous DHPP chairman Hu Pang Chow with current chairman N Balasubramaniam.
Hu had previously stated his objections to hudud, believing that not all within PAS were agreeable to it.
However as Balasubramaniam recently told the Malay Mail Online, such a view was only Hu’s personal view and did not reflect that of DHPP’s, and it was such that resulted in his removal as DHPP chief last year.
“We are not against hudud. Being against hudud was Hu Pang Chow’s personal stand. He never discussed with DHPP about this,” said Balasubramaniam, adding that PAS had explained their plans for implementing hudud in Kelantan and that it would only affect Muslims and non-Muslims.
According to Balasubramaniam, all 40,000 members of DHPP were in full support of hudud, and had previously been misrepresented by Hu’s own personal views and remarks.
