(Malay Mail Online) – Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said today that none of the party’s supreme council members called for their president Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign during this evening’s meeting.

Khairy said the meeting only discussed the issues currently confronting the administration.

“What was brought up wasn’t loyalty to the leadership, but issues that are hotly debated,” said Khairy, citing 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

“We hope issues will be resolved, like 1MDB – we hope there’ll be a quick resolution,” he added when speaking to reporters after the meeting tonight.

Khairy also said that Najib’s deputy Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin denied claims of having a clandestine meeting in Milan, Italy, to discuss his possible takeover as prime minister.

Former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, claiming to have information from an Umno source, wrote about the alleged meeting between Muhyiddin and several Umno bigwigs in a blog post yesterday.

“He (Najib) has the mandate to lead the party,” said Khairy, who is also youth and sports minister.

Another Umno minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, similarly told Malay Mail Online that there were no calls at today’s supreme council meeting for Najib’s resignation.

“Everyone supports the PM,” he said.

Najib’s leadership has been come under heavy criticism of late over a number of issues, particularly its handling of allegations surrounding 1MDB.

The allegations have earned the attention of even Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who recently went public with his demand that Najib step down for failing to adequately address the alleged transgressions of his government.
