Ahmad challenging Hadi gives hope to Anwarinas & Pasma
(The Rakyat Post) – Whilst opining that the presence of Ahmad Awang as a challenger for the post of PAS president would not give much of an impact, Awang Selamat today believes that it will serve as hope for the Anwarinas within the Islamist party as well as what it claimed as being the pro-DAP Persatuan Sejahtera Ummah (PasMa).
Saying that it was not surprised that current president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will be challenged for the post for the first time in 13 years, Utusan Malaysia’s collective editorial claimed that on paper, the chances of Ahmad winning was thin.
“Politics is an art of possibilities,” Awang Selamat said in the Malay daily today.
Ahmad can be seen as a weak leader with no influence, Awang opined, in saying that the decision made by the former PAS deputy president to contest the post would not give much of an impact.
However, Awang Selamat said that it could be a slap to Abdul Hadi and the ulama, as the collective editorial claimed it would give hope to those in the party who were pro-Anwar.
“Ahmad can claim that he is bringing the voice of the grassroots but a majority of PAS members can read between the lines.
“Awang believes that among those who are happy that Hadi is being challenged, is DAP who had severed ties with him recently following the hudud issue in Kelantan,” Awang Selamat wrote, further claiming that Abdul Hadi had been in the way of DAP and the Anwarinas’ agenda.
“So, within the party, Ahmad is not alone.”
Awang Selamat further claimed that it wasn’t just any (normal) power standing behind the challenger.
“This is not simply a tale of a worm wanting to be a dragon, but it is more than that.Ahmad knows, Hadi knows it too,” Awang Selamat said, leaving the opinion piece at that, without explaining further.
Earlier this week, Ahmad submmited his nomination acceptance form after he was deemed qualified to run for the post of president, following nominations by several PAS divisions.
PAS party polls is expected to take place next month during the annual muktamar.
