Lim tells PM to debate Dr M but won’t do the same himself
Penang CM backs down from doing battle with former premier although Mahathir Mohamad said he, like Najib, should resign from their posts.
(Free Malaysia Today) – Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has suggested Najib Razak call for a debate and do “battle” with Dr Mahathir Mohamad although he has shied away from doing the same himself.
He made this suggestion when speaking to reporters today, saying that instead of posting blog entries in answer to the former premier’s harsh criticisms of him, Najib should simply call for a debate and settle the issue once and for all.
“Have a debate instead of writing in his blog and FAQ in a controlled and laboratory-like environment.
“Let the people decide,” Guan Eng was quoted by Malaysiakini as suggesting.
He added, ”Go into a real life arena. Battle it out, man-to-man, with Mahathir.”
However when asked for his reactions to comments by Mahathir that he too like Najib, should resign, Guan Eng was quick to say he had no intention of being drawn into any kind of battle with the former prime minister.
“I don’t want to be drawn into the Najib-Mahathir battle. Let them fight. See who comes out with better arguments.
He did say however that he disagreed with Mahathir’s criticisms of him and DAP but maintained all the same that it was Najib and not he, who should debate the former premier.
Mahathir had criticised Guan Eng recently saying the DAP-led Penang government had become antagonistic and had fallen back on “racist sentiments”, something that had become detrimental to the country.
Another critic of DAP was PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, who was reported by Malaysiakini as saying Muslims were obligated to state their anger towards the party for opposing the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.
