Where in Quran is Muslim anger against non-believers encouraged? Guan Eng asks Hadi
(Malay Mail Online) – Lim Guan Eng urged Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang today to pinpoint which passage in the Quran states that Muslims are told to show anger towards non-believers of Islamic law, saying he was of the belief that Islam promotes peace, not anger.
Lim said he was puzzled by Hadi’s call for Muslim anger towards the DAP over the party’s rejection of hudud, even more so by the PAS president’s claim that such anger is an obligation of Muslims and is permitted by Allah.
“DAP was only formed in 1966. DAP is not aware that it is stated in a great and holy religion like Islam, that anger towards DAP is permitted by Allah,” the DAP secretary-general said in a statement.
“As a non-Muslim without any knowledge of Islam, I am only aware that Islam is a religion of peace and not one of anger.
“I would like to ask Hadi to state where in the Quran (it says that) believers of Islam should be always angry against disbelievers or those who disagree,” he added.
Lim also went on to ask why Hadi only appeared to be directing his anger at the DAP and not with others who have voiced similar objections to the Islamic penal code that PAS wants introduced in Kelantan.
He said the DAP’s opposition to the Islamic criminal justice system is because it runs counter to the Federal Constitution, which is deemed the supreme law of the land.
The DAP leader also pointed out that apart from those in the DAP, there are many Malaysians who are against the Islamic law, particularly voters in Sabah and Sarawak.
Yesterday, Hadi told Muslims that they have a duty to be angry with DAP for openly rejecting hudud, saying that Muslims were obligated to feel that way, especially when it concerns matters of faith and “things permitted by Allah”.
DAP has cut ties with Hadi over his continued push for hudud despite disagreement by from PAS’s allies, saying the move violated Pakatan Rakyat’s Common Policy Framework and consensus.
The Kelantan state assembly approved the Shariah Criminal Code (II) (1993) 2015 Enactment on March 19 with 31 votes from PAS lawmakers supported by 12 from Umno.
Hadi also submitted a private member’s Bill to Parliament to remove the legal obstacles that prevent the enforcement of hudud in Kelantan, which requires bipartisan support from Umno and others to pass.
PAS’s opaque plans over hudud prompted hostile responses from allies PKR and DAP, with the open discord sending the pact into a crisis that has senior leaders already bracing for its disintegration.
