Ex-Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has asked that a commission be set up to investigate the affairs of 1MDB.

Umno Youth Leader Khairy Jamaluddin has asked that certain people be called to testify in front of the PAC in its ongoing investigation into the affairs of 1MDB, Jho Low being one of those people.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has asked that the entire Board of Directors of 1MDB be sacked as punishment for what happened in 1MDB and for the police to be brought in — presumably to investigate whether any crime has been committed and whether there should be any arrests and indictments into possible crimes committed by certain people.

And the opposition, of course, has asked for Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak’s resignation for what they consider the mismanagement or even possible transgressions in 1MDB.

The issue that all these people have been harping on is that 1MDB has to explain what happened to the money, in this case a figure of RM42 billion has been quoted. They want to know whether the money is still safe or whether the money has disappeared, as some people allege.

How can all these suggestions from various people answer the question that everyone is asking — whether the money is still safe or whether the money has disappeared?

Is this not what the PAC is doing, trying to answer that question? The PAC, in fact, has said that its investigation is going to be deeper and wider than that. And we have not yet heard what the scope of this investigation is going to be.
