Video shows Najib-Muhyiddin camaraderie was false
Lim Kit Siang says the video leak has wide repercussions and asks whether the Najib-Muhyiddin war has now broken out in the open
(Free Malaysia Today) – DAP Parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang today hit out at the apparent internal strife between the top two leaders in Umno, lamenting that the “smoke and mirrors” at play had completely overshadowed the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) on the very day it was unveiled.
Despite its glossy packaging, Lim said that the RM260 billion 11MP was unable to enjoy the limelight for even one hour, having been immediately overwhelmed and overshadowed by a video-recording of Deputy Prime Minister Muhiyuddin Yassin calling for heads to roll in the 1MDB scandal.
FMT had yesterday broken the story of the controversial video-recording showing the Umno deputy president addressing a closed-door training session last Saturday.
In his speech, Muhiyuddin had expressed in no uncertain terms his misgivings about the way Prime Minister Najib Razak was handling the flaming 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal.
The video, which went viral immediately after its release, saw Muhiyuddin sounding out a warning that the 1MDB scandal was capable of causing the downfall of the Umno/BN government.
Noting this, Lim said, “Parliamentary and national attention was affixed not on the 11th Malaysia Plan but on Prime Minister Najib Razak’s reaction and whether Najib’s head will also have to roll in the process.”
The Gelang Patah MP said that in a span of just ten days, “all the false camaraderie” displayed after the Umno Supreme Council meeting on May 11 had been “torn asunder” by the video.
“It was only some ten days after the Umno Supreme Council meeting that Najib said his relationship with Muhiyuddin was stronger than ever and that no one could divide them,” Lim recalled.
Muhiyuddin’s warning that 1MDB was likely to be “the last straw to break the camel’s back” was greeted with loud applause and even “Sack the President” calls, and has now become “the hottest property on YouTube,” Lim observed.
According to Lim the disclosure of the video has wide repercussions.
It has effectively jettisoned the Umno Supreme Council decision advising Malaysians to await the pending reports by the Auditor-General and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) into the 1MDB scandal, Lim says.
He added that he believed that the release of the video had also caused a “panic reaction” by Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah. Ahmad Husni had yesterday announced that he would table to the Cabinet next week a proposed restructuring of 1MDB.
