(The Malaysian Insider) – The recent attacks against DAP by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang are just the Islamist party’s efforts to find an excuse to leave Pakatan Rakyat and join Umno, ‎Lim Guan Eng said today.

The DAP secretary-general said he was shocked and saddened at Hadi’s latest salvo against the party, adding that the PAS leader had “lost his senses”‎ and should leave PR if that was what he wanted.

“These accusations are baseless and do not make sense. It seems as if this is an effort to find excuses to form a unity government with Umno-BN,” he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

Umno is the lead Malay party in the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition and has long been PAS’s arch-rival for the Malay-Muslim vote.

“If he wants to form a unity government with them, he should just go. But don’t attack and make false accusations towards DAP‎.”

Lim, who is also Penang chief minister, was responding to Hadi’s comments yesterday that PAS was ready to cut ties with DAP ‎following DAP’s move to unveil a shadow cabinet without members from the Islamist party and PKR.

Hadi had said that DAP’s shadow cabinet was unrealistic, and told the party that it could not protect the interests of only one ‎group.

DAP has already cut ties with Hadi, although it maintains a working relationship with the rest of PAS.
