PAS warns of possible collapse of Pakatan, says Tuan Ibrahim
(The Star) – PAS has publicly warned of the possible collapse of Pakatan Rakyat, blaming it on the incessant attacks by DAP on the party and its leaders, said PAS vice president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (pic).
He said PAS could no longer “keep quiet” after the barrage of attacks against Datuk Seri Hadi Awang and the resulting animosity has allowed Umno to take advantage of the situation.
“I had warned DAP about attacking PAS while the people are giving their support to PR but what DAP is doing is weakening the opposition coalition rather than strengthening the co-operation,” Tuan Ibrahim said on his Facebook on Monday.
On Sunday, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said the next two weeks could see the end of the coalition. Lim said the unity government between PAS and Umno may now succeed after being blocked by the late PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat.
Tuan Ibrahim, the most popular contender for the deputy’s post in the polls next month, warned that the scathing attacks on Hadi and the party were pushing PAS out of the coalition.
“PAS members are beginning to feel fed-up with DAP’s assault on the party and this will bring negative consequences on the comimg PAS general assembly and elections as the party had to defend its dignity as an Islamist party.
“If it is true that DAP treasures PR, stop the attacks and put it behind and forget about the differences and they should keep quiet if they have nothing nice to say about the political co-operation (Tahaluf Siyasi).
“Otherwise, DAP cannot blame PAS for the fallout because PAS was merely carrying out their principles especially after former Kelantan mentri besar Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat’s demise,” he warned.
He said the late Nik Aziz loved PR but he would never compromise on party’s struggles to appease its partners.
“And I want to reiterate that the accusation that PAS will merge with Umno is a defamation and it was clearly defined by the Syura Council recently.
“My question is how many parliamentary seats is Umno going to give PAS in the next general election? 40? Thus, this argument is good enough to stop the accusations,” he said.
