Rosli ‘collateral damage’ in Gani, Musa’s animosity towards Ramli
Arrest saw lawyer branded a ‘crook’ and a ‘scoundrel’ even among his friends, close friend testifies.
(Free Malaysia Today) – A former top policeman repeated his assertion that ‘personal animosity’ harboured by former Inspector General of Police Musa Hassan and Attorney General Abdul Gani Patail against him impacted severely on lawyer Rosli Dahlan.
Former Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (CCID) director Ramli Yusoff told the High Court here during re-examination earlier today that this happened despite Rosli just being needed as a witness in investigation against Ramli.
“They tried to ‘prevent’ him from helping me,” he testified.
Ramli said Rosli came into the picture in 2007 in order to help his department prepare affidavits to oppose a habeas corpus application filed by Goh Cheng Poh.
“The AG refused to help the police prepare the affidavits,” he said, resulting in him having to seek help from outside.
He claimed that the AG took that position after a dispute arose regarding a notice issued by the ACA to Ramli requiring him to deliver up Goh’s case file to the ACA.
“The case file contained information such as informants’ names and was highly classified,” he told presiding Judge Su Geok Yam. “Only the Home Minister and the case file officer could access it.”
He added that former deputy IGP Najib Mohd Noor and head of prosecution Yusof Zainal Abidin had also agreed to his stand during a prior meeting which they had with Gani.
Ramli added that the animosity had also cost him a promotion, saying that he had earlier been informed by the retiring IGP Bakri Omar that he would be promoted to deputy IGP.
“He called me to his office on September 2006 and congratulated me to tell me that I would be next in line as deputy IGP,” Ramli told the court.
