Najib will drown if only ‘rubbish’ support him
Those who have come out in the PM’s defence are political has-beens, says Zainuddin Maidin
(Free Malaysia Today) – Former information minister Zainuddin Maidin has dismissed a demand by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak last Friday that rebel Cabinet members step down. “Najib will not be any wiser on who are sincerely with him in the 1MDB controversy simply by issuing such a demand. It would be surprising if the rebels step down.”
In the latest article posted on his blog, Zainuddin said Najib should demand that Cabinet members step forward and respond to former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad’s continuing attack on him. “That would be better than having anyone step down, which would only cause a split in Barisan Nasional and the government.”
So far, he noted, only the “rubbish” elements in society have been supporting Najib. “If he can get support only from the rubbish, he will eventually drown in rubbish.”
He suggested that Cabinet members appear on TV3 and other media to support Najib, like Barisan Nasional Backbenchers Club Chairman Shahrir Samad and Mubarak President Abdul Aziz Abdul Rahman have been doing.
Implying that Shahrir and Abdul Aziz are insignificant figures, Zainuddin said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, Umno Vice- Presidents Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Shafie Apdal and Umno Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin should have taken the initiative in defending the beleaguered Najib.
“If they had done this, Najib wouldn’t be facing the current worsening crisis of confidence,” he said.
“It remains a mystery why Zahid, the Number One Vice- President in Umno, has remained silent on whether he supports Najib.”
