Former minister Noh Omar’s brother arrested for attempted murder
(Malay Mail Online) – Mohd Jusnaidi Omar (pic), fugitive and brother of former minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar, was arrested at a homestay in the town of Kundasang near the foothills of Sabah’s Mount Kinabalu.
Jusnaidi, also known as “Mat Malaya”, was arrested at 10.50pm yesterday at the homestay, along with his 24-year-old wife and two-month-old baby boy.
Police have been on the hunt for the 44-year-old suspect who was wanted for the shooting of a mechanic on May 6 at workshop here.
Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said that the baby has been placed in his grandparents’ care while investigations are underway.
Jusnaidi is being investigated for attempted murder and the possession of a firearm.
Police have yet to recover any weapons but have seized two handphones from the scene.
It was previously reported that Jusnaidi was wanted for the attempted murder of a mechanic at a workshop along Jalan Tuaran here after a fight broke out due to him “staring at the mechanic”.
A verbal confrontation ensued and Jusnaidi allegedly took out a pistol and fired three shots, one of which hit the mechanic’s right calf. He has been on the run since.
Jusnaidi, from Selangor, was once charged with drug trafficking in 2007 but was freed by the High Court.
He is the younger brother of Noh, who is Tanjung Karang MP and former agriculture and agro-based industry minister.
