Kelantan delegate blasts DAP for fussing over hudud rollout
(Malay Mail Online) – A PAS Youth delegate blamed DAP today for “making a scene” on Kelantan’s push to enforce its controversial Shariah criminal code, despite their consensus on “agreeing to disagree”.
Nor Azariza Mohd Alawi criticised the Islamist party’s Pakatan Rakyat (PR) partner for kicking up a fuss on the state matter, saying it ran counter to their political ties and friendship.
“Our Pakatan friend is looking down on this noble intention of ours… when you intend to make friends, you have to be sensitive to your friend’s feelings.
“We have taken a stand that we agree to disagree on the matter. Isn’t it enough to say that they disagree with us one time? Why must they make a scene and drum it up everywhere, in public talks, newspapers, reports et cetera?” Nor Azariza said in his speech when debating the PAS Youth chief’s address.
Holding up PAS as an exemplary PR ally, he added that the Islamic party had also disagreed with DAP’s proposal to restore local government elections in the country but did not resort to trumpeting its dissatisfaction like DAP.
“We also don’t agree with the local government elections’ proposal, but we didn’t make a fuss of it and drum it up at any ceramah,” he said.
The PAS-led Kelantan government amended its state Shariah Criminal Code Enactment II, which was followed by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s filing of a private member’s Bill to Parliament early this year to push for hudud’s rollout.
The DAP objected to the move, resulting in fragmented ties within the PR top leadership and leading to views that the opposition pact that was forged in the wake of the landmark Election 2008 would break up.
