Pro-ulama group makes clean sweep at PAS Youth polls
(The Star) – PAS Youth will now be helmed by the pro-ulama faction whose leaders made a clean sweep of all the wing’s posts with Nik Mohd Abduh Nik Aziz elected as the new president.
Members opted for a change by electing the group, led by sons of former and current PAS leaders.
Nik Mohd Abduh, son of the late PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat and his running mate Khalil Abdul Hadi, son of current PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang defeated incumbent youth chief Shuhaizan Kaiat and his deputy Raja Ahmad Raja Iskandar Yaacob.
Nik Mohd Abduh polled 429 votes compared to Suhaizan’s 263 votes, while Khalil had 436 votes to Raja Ahmad’s 257 votes.
Other casualties from the previous line-up include youth vice-president Nor Azman Mohamad, who lost to Khairil Nizam Khirudin.
The results are seen a sign of rising support for the ulamas from grassroot members, who want its leaders to take a stronger stand on key issues such as their role in Pakatan Rakyat and PAS’ hudud.
