‘Syura Council has final say on Pakatan Rakyat ties’
(The Rakyat Post) – PAS through its Syura Council has the power to change the concept of Pakatan Rakyat’s political pact it has with DAP and PKR.
Its spiritual leader Datuk Dr Haron Din said PAS’ position in the political pact was not a decision which could not be changed.
He explained that the pact could be cancelled if any party went against the Syura Council guidelines.
“Nabi Muhammad himself had rejected a political pact. These pacts sometimes are needed and at other times not needed, at times they may be fleeting and at times not required.
“This pact requirement is not absolute or forever. It depends on the situation,” he said in his speech at the official opening of the 54th ulama assembly here today.
The political pact was based on six guidelines made by the Syura Council before PAS was allowed to form a political coalition with DAP and PKR.
He said PAS’ partners must respect the guidelines as Pakatan Rakyat is a coalition and its not for the other parties to try and control PAS.
Haron said the alliance was forged on the basis of upholding Islam and Islamic laws, including hudud, which was being championed by the party.
“There cannot be any blind obedience to the political pact.”
At the same function, the head of the party’s ulama wing Datuk Mahfodz Mohamad also touched on the political pact by mulling that the coalition could be terminated if the crisis between PAS, DAP and PKR deepened.
