DAP gives PAS muktamar a miss
No DAP representatives are sighted at PAS 61st annual congress which begins today.
(Free Malaysia Today) – With no sign of DAP representatives present, it seems that DAP has chosen to snub PAS at the latter’s 61st muktamar, or annual congress which begins today.
This seems to be a clear signal of the deepening rift between the two Pakatan Rakyat allies (PR). PKR deputy president and Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali however was present today.
This comes following escalating tussles between the two member parties of Pakatan Rakyat, one of the latest being an emergency motion passed yesterday by PAS’s clergy wing that took offence to the DAP’s criticisms against PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for his pursuit to roll out hudud in Kelantan.
DAP had recently reprimanded PAS members for accusing the former of interfering in the Islamist party’s polls, and challenged them to back up the allegations with evidence.
DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had accused critics of his party of hypocrisy for their unsubstantiated claims.
“Don’t slander us. Coming from PAS…they always say that slander is a big sin, so show proof if they keep on saying that (DAP is interfering in their party elections).
“They will never blame themselves. If they say that we are interfering, show proof,” he told a press conference at George Town yesterday.
PAS ulama chief Mahfodz Mohamad had yesterday accused DAP of meddling with the Islamist party’s internal polls this week by announcing that it will reconsider its position in PR after the muktamar.
He called DAP’s purported interference a “provocative” move, which he said could nullify the tahaluf siyasi, or political consensus, between PAS and its PR allies.
