PAS polls: ‘Know the faces of troublemakers’
(The Star) – Campaiging has gone up another notch at the PAS election – flyers identifying ‘trouble makers’ in the party leadership are being circulated at public places.
The flyers, sighted by The Star at Kundang rest area, carried the heading “Know the faces of these trouble makers” and categorised two groups of leaders – supporters of liberalism within PAS and those opposing the ulama group.
The first category, circled in blue, named incumbent vice-president Datuk Husam Musa, PAS election committee chairman Asmuni Awi and election director Hatta Ramli.
Others include central committee members, notably Khalid Samad, Hanipa Maidin, Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin, Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, Datuk Kamaruddin Jaafar, and former Muslimat chief Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.
The second category circled in orange named incumbent deputy president Mohamad Sabu (pic), incumbent vice-president Salahuddin Ayub, information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar, former Youth chief Suhaizan Kaiat, central committee members Raja Iskandar Raja Ahmad Yaacob and Zulkifli Omar.
A total of 1,195 delegates are casting their votes on Thursday to determine a new leadership for the 2015-2017 term.
The strong calls for the party to go back to its ulama roots have reflected the party’s factions – ulama and professionals – a notion that was always denied by PAS top echelon.
However, the clean sweep by the pro-ulama group in both Youth and Muslimat wings on Wednesday indicated that there are attempts to wipe out all the progressives in the party.
